This is just a note of sincere appreciation to say what an enormous pleasure it was to have the chance of playing that really first-class instrument which is temporarily installed at the West End of St Martin’s Church in Albany Road, Roath.

I know that you have worked enormously hard on it to set it up as an instrument for the music of the French late 19th and 20th century school, and I have to say that you have done an absolutely superb job on it. In addition, the “close” voicing which has been done to set in into the context of that particular building is wonderfully successful!

It really caused quite a stir amongst the members of the South East Wales Organists’ Association who gathered there that evening. There was a whole group who waited their turn to play it - and I heard nothing but real praise from all there. They’re a good group in the Association, and amongst them all there are some very fine players indeed. The remarks of all were not only very positive, but they were also very full of “insight” (sorry about that word, but it’s the best I can come up with).

Of course, the main questions are:

Does the instrument play that French school of music well?
Does it work as an instrument which will do good general duty for leading instrumentalists, singers and congregations?

And in both cases, the answer is a resounding YES!

I personally found it a wonderfully exciting organ to play, and the variety of different tonal colours were more than enough to satisfy the most tough critic. What I also found astonishing was the fact that the sound was delivered into a very large church indeed - and yet all was done with just the 4 main speakers, and the one large “woofer”. I know that if you were installing it into a larger building or hall, the speakers would be tailored to the particular needs. But honestly, it made for a really great evening. So congratulations!
