Christ church is home to two organs, a striking George Sixsmith pipe organ at the west end of the church, the basis of which is a gorgeous organ by the great JJ Binns and a Viscount Envoy 35F situated in the choir and expertly voiced by our host Richard Lowe.

Having heard this remarkable organ previously on YouTube, we were keen to hear it live, and we were bowled over by its remarkable beauty of tone and wide palette of colours on both his English and French voicings.

We are looking forward to an upcoming larger installation in the Cardiff area, so we took the opportunity to listen to several sets of speakers in the warm acoustics of the church using this remarkable organ.

Owner Marc Ogier of Hush Audio systems kindly brought two pairs of his latest, very impressive speakers to listen to, completing a wide choice at different price points. We listened at length not only to the quality of tone, but also such key points as linear frequency response, off-axis performance and sound stage.

Richard’s comprehensive musical and technical mastery certainly put the speakers through their paces. Thank you, Richard and Mark; it was a most memorable visit with some surprising revelations in the comparison of the speakers.
